- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon red food coloring
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg, vanilla, milk, and red food coloring. Gradually mix in dry ingredients just until combined.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a rose or star tip and pipe rose-shaped cookies onto the sheets.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, until cookies are set but still soft. Cool completely on a wire rack.
- Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar and vanilla and beat until light and creamy.
- Pipe or spread filling onto the flat side of one cookie and sandwich with another. Repeat with remaining cookies.
