Matcha Irish Soda Bread – A Delightful St. Patrick’s Day Treat
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons matcha powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon honey
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, matcha powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the chilled, cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use your fingertips to rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in the buttermilk and honey, and stir just until a shaggy dough forms. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times, just until it comes together.
- Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on the prepared baking sheet.
- Use a sharp knife to score a deep cross on the top of the dough.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the Matcha Irish Soda Bread to cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
