- 1 medium onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2 cups (480 ml) beef broth
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 4 large potatoes
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk
- 4 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
- Place peeled and cubed potatoes in a large pot with cold water.
- Add a pinch of salt and bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Reduce heat and simmer potatoes until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
- Add warm milk and butter, then mash until creamy.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste and adjust as needed.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Sauté chopped onion until translucent and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and stir for 1 minute until aromatic.
- Add ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks until browned, about 6-8 minutes.
- Drain excess fat, leaving some for flavor, then season with salt and pepper.
- Sprinkle flour over beef mixture and stir to coat, cooking for 1 minute.
- Gradually pour in beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps.
- Bring to a simmer, thickening the gravy, adding more broth if needed.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, simmer for 5-7 minutes until bubbly.
- Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates and ladle gravy over them.
- Garnish with parsley or black pepper, then serve hot.
