  • 1 lb sweet Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium-high heat, breaking it up as it cooks, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until the onion is translucent.
  4. Stir in the maple syrup and heavy cream, and bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Transfer the sausage mixture to a 9×13 baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with fresh thyme if desired.
