- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (113g)
- 2 cups powdered sugar (240g)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
- Food coloring (red and pink)
- Sprinkles or sanding sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Beat butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
- Mix in egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) until fully combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing just until a soft dough forms.
- Cover and refrigerate dough for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut heart shapes.
- Place on parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for 8–10 minutes until just set.
- Beat butter until creamy, then add powdered sugar, vanilla, and cream to desired consistency.
- Frost cooled cookies, add sprinkles, and let set before storing.
