Description

This creamy salmon chowder recipe is a hearty and flavorful seafood chowder perfect for a comforting meal. It’s an easy homemade salmon chowder that can be made quickly, making it a great option for a weeknight dinner. This New England salmon chowder variation is packed with fresh salmon and vegetables.


Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 4 cups salmon broth
  • 1 pound salmon fillet, skin removed and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add onion, carrots, and celery. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Pour in the salmon broth and bring to a simmer.
  3. Add the salmon pieces to the simmering broth. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily.
  4. Reduce heat to low. Stir in the half-and-half and heavy cream. Do not boil.
  5. Stir in the fresh dill. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve your delicious salmon chowder hot.

Notes

  • For a smoked salmon chowder, you can use smoked salmon instead of fresh.
  • Add corn or peas for a vegetable salmon chowder.
  • If you prefer a salmon chowder without potatoes, omit them from the recipe.
