Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 12 ounces uncooked pasta (such as elbow macaroni or penne)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, uncooked pasta, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the pasta is cooked through and the sauce has thickened. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  5. If using, stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted.
