Packed with rich flavors, simple ingredients, and a creamy, cheesy texture, this easy weeknight dinner will become a household favorite. Let’s dive into how to make the best Philly cheesesteak casserole at home!

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ribeye steak (or flank steak, thinly sliced)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1 green bell pepper (sliced)
  • 1 red bell pepper (sliced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika

For the Creamy Casserole Base:

  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 3 large eggs (whisked)
  • 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Optional Add-Ons:

  • Mushrooms – For extra umami flavor.
  • Jalapeños – For a spicy kick!
  • Cheddar Cheese – For a sharper cheese flavor.

Instructions

Step1: Preheat & Prepare

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish lightly with oil or butter.

Step2: Cook the Steak

In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced ribeye steak, season with salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika, and cook until browned (about 3-4 minutes). Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Step3: Sauté the Veggies

In the same skillet, add the onions, green and red bell peppers, and garlic. Cook over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until softened and caramelized. Add Worcestershire sauce and stir.

Step4: Prepare the Casserole Mixture

In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, heavy cream, and whisked eggs. Stir until smooth and well combined.

Step5: Assemble the Casserole

  • Spread the cooked steak and sautéed vegetables evenly in the greased baking dish.
  • Pour the creamy mixture over the steak and veggies.
  • Sprinkle the top with provolone and mozzarella cheese.

Step6: Bake to Perfection

Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.

Step7: Serve & Enjoy!

Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes, then slice and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use Thinly Sliced Steak – For the most authentic cheesesteak flavor, go for ribeye or flank steak, sliced super thin.
  • Don’t Overcook the Steak – Since it will bake, sear it quickly for a juicy texture.
  • Cheese Variations – Provolone is classic, but feel free to use mozzarella, cheddar, or even pepper jack for extra flavor!
