Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ribeye steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

Cheese Options:

  • 4 slices Provolone cheese (traditional choice)
  • Cheez Whiz (for an authentic Philly-style experience)
  • American cheese (for extra creaminess)

Bread:

  • 2 hoagie rolls, lightly toasted

Optional Additions:

  • Mayonnaise
  • Hot sauce
  • Worcestershire sauce for extra flavor

Instructions

Step1: Prepare the Steak

  1. Place the ribeye steak in the freezer for 15-20 minutes to firm up. This makes slicing easier.
  2. Once chilled, thinly slice the steak against the grain using a sharp knife.

Step2: Sauté the Vegetables

  1. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add sliced onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms.
  3. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they soften and become caramelized.
  4. Remove from the pan and set aside.

Step3: Cook the Steak

  1. In the same skillet, add the sliced steak.
  2. Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Sear the steak over high heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently until browned.

Step4: Melt the Cheese

  1. Lower the heat to medium and return the cooked vegetables to the pan.
  2. Place slices of cheese over the steak and let them melt for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Stir gently to combine the melted cheese with the meat.

Step5: Assemble the Sandwich

  1. Toast the hoagie rolls with a little butter.
  2. Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise (optional).
  3. Fill each roll with the cheesesteak mixture.

Notes

  • Use high-quality ribeye steak for the most tender and flavorful results.
  • Freeze the steak for easier slicing.
  • Cook on high heat to sear the meat properly.
  • Avoid overcooking—you want the steak juicy, not dry.
  • Choose the right cheese—Provolone, American, or Cheez Whiz for authentic flavors.
