- 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 cup diced onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni (optional)
- 2 tbsp fresh basil leaves, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or Italian sausage over medium heat until browned and cooked through, breaking it up as it cooks.
- Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 2-3 minutes, until the onion is translucent.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Simmer for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Transfer the meat and tomato mixture to a 9-inch pie dish or baking pan.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
- If using, arrange the sliced pepperoni over the cheese.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and garnish with the chopped fresh basil leaves.
