  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • For the Glaze:
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 12 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in granulated sugar, salt, eggs, and melted butter into the yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough. Roll it out into a 12×18 inch rectangle.
  7. Spread softened butter over the dough. Mix granulated sugar, lemon zest, and lemon juice; sprinkle evenly over the butter.
  8. Roll up the dough tightly starting from one of the long sides. Cut into 12 equal rolls.
  9. Place rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes.
  10. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  12. While rolls bake, whisk together powdered sugar, lemon juice, and milk for the glaze until smooth.
