Description
Heart Egg-in-a-Hole Toast is a charming and simple breakfast made with a golden egg cooked inside a heart-shaped slice of bread.
Ingredients

- 2 slices of sandwich bread (white, wheat, or sourdough)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter or olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Shredded cheese
- Fresh herbs (parsley or chives)
- Chili flakes
- Avocado slices
- Fresh berries or sliced fruit
- Jam or preserves
Instructions
- Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut the center out of each slice of bread. Save the cut-outs.
- Melt butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the bread slices.
- Crack one egg into each heart-shaped hole. Season with salt and pepper. Cook 2–3 minutes until whites are mostly set.
- Carefully flip and cook another 1–2 minutes until desired yolk doneness.
- Toast the heart-shaped bread pieces until golden.
- Plate the toast and cut-outs, garnish with optional toppings, and serve immediately.
