Description

Heart Egg-in-a-Hole Toast is a charming and simple breakfast made with a golden egg cooked inside a heart-shaped slice of bread.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of sandwich bread (white, wheat, or sourdough)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter or olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Shredded cheese
  • Fresh herbs (parsley or chives)
  • Chili flakes
  • Avocado slices
  • Fresh berries or sliced fruit
  • Jam or preserves

Instructions

  1. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut the center out of each slice of bread. Save the cut-outs.
  2. Melt butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the bread slices.
  3. Crack one egg into each heart-shaped hole. Season with salt and pepper. Cook 2–3 minutes until whites are mostly set.
  4. Carefully flip and cook another 1–2 minutes until desired yolk doneness.
  5. Toast the heart-shaped bread pieces until golden.
  6. Plate the toast and cut-outs, garnish with optional toppings, and serve immediately.
