- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced thinly
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in chopped onion and cook until softened.
- Add cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish.
- Top with half of the beef mixture.
- Repeat with remaining potatoes and beef mixture.
- Dot the top with butter.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil.
- Bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil, sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
- Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- Russet potatoes are recommended for their starch content.
- Lean ground turkey or chicken can be substituted for ground beef.
- Cream of chicken soup can replace cream of mushroom soup.
- Mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese can be used instead of cheddar.
