Description
This French Onion Pork Chops recipe offers a savory and comforting meal. Tender pork chops are coated in a rich French onion soup-inspired sauce, creating a delicious and easy dinner.
Ingredients
- 4 bone-in pork chops, 1 inch thick
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed French onion soup
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 1/4 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
Instructions
- Pat the pork chops dry with paper towels. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the pork chops for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove pork chops from the skillet and set aside.
- Add the sliced onion to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and lightly caramelized, about 8-10 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and dried thyme to the skillet and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Stir in the condensed French onion soup and beef broth. Bring to a simmer.
- Return the pork chops to the skillet, nestling them into the sauce.
- Cover the skillet and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the pork chops are cooked through (internal temperature of 145°F).
- Remove the lid and sprinkle the shredded Gruyere cheese over the pork chops and sauce.
- Cover and let it sit for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted.
- Serve the French Onion Pork Chops hot, spooning the sauce over the top.
Notes
- For a deeper flavor, you can caramelize the onions for a longer period.
- Balsamic vinegar can be added for a touch of acidity.
- Serve with mashed potatoes or crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce.
