Classic Homemade Orange Candy – A Sweet, Citrusy Treat
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup fresh orange juice (about 2–3 medium oranges)
- 2 tablespoons orange zest (from about 2 medium oranges)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- A pinch of salt
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for dusting)
- Additional cocoa powder (optional, for extra decoration)
Instructions
- Juice and zest the oranges. Set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, combine orange juice, orange zest, sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
- Attach a candy thermometer to the side of the pan. Bring the mixture to a boil, then cook until it reaches 245°F (118°C), the soft-ball stage.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
- Pour the hot candy mixture onto a prepared baking sheet lined with parchment paper or silicone mat. Let it cool for 10-15 minutes until firm.
- Once the candy is firm, cut it into small pieces. Optionally, roll in granulated sugar or cocoa powder for extra texture and decoration.
