Description
This Boston Cream Poke Cake recipe delivers a deliciously creamy and chocolatey dessert. It’s an easy homemade treat perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (15.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup water
- 1 (3.4 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, vegetable oil, eggs, and 1 cup of water. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed until just combined, then increase speed to medium and beat for 2 minutes.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
- While the cake is still warm, use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the top of the cake.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and 2 cups of milk until smooth. Let it sit for 5 minutes to thicken.
- Pour the pudding mixture evenly over the warm cake, ensuring it fills the poked holes.
- In a small bowl, beat together the powdered sugar, softened butter, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. This will be your frosting.
- Spread the frosting evenly over the pudding layer.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons of milk. Microwave on high for 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
- Drizzle the melted chocolate over the frosting.
- Chill the Boston Cream Poke Cake for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
- For a richer chocolate flavor, you can use chocolate pudding instead of vanilla.
- Add whipped cream or Cool Whip on top before serving for extra creaminess.
- This Boston Cream Poke Cake is best served chilled.
