Description

Indulge in the rich, savory flavors of this traditional Baked Scotch Pie. This classic Scottish dish features a flaky pastry crust filled with a well-seasoned ground meat filling, perfect for a cozy meal or sharing with loved ones.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed if frozen
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground meat over medium-high heat until browned and crumbled, 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the diced onion and garlic, and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
  4. Season the meat mixture with thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  5. Unroll the puff pastry sheet and place it into a 9-inch pie dish, pressing it into the sides and bottom.
  6. Spoon the seasoned meat mixture into the pastry-lined pie dish, spreading it out evenly.
  7. Fold the excess pastry over the filling to create a top crust. Crimp the edges to seal.
  8. Brush the top of the pie crust with the beaten egg.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and flaky.
  10. Allow the Baked Scotch Pie to cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
