Description

A no-bake pie that captures the classic flavors of German chocolate cake with layers of chocolate, coconut, and pecans in a buttery crust. It’s an easy and indulgent dessert perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 chocolate cookie crust or graham cracker crust
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Melt chocolate chips with 1/4 cup heavy cream until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Beat softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until creamy.
  3. Fold melted chocolate mixture into cream cheese mixture until well blended.
  4. Pour chocolate filling into prepared crust and spread evenly.
  5. Combine sweetened condensed milk, butter, vanilla extract, 1/4 cup heavy cream, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans in a saucepan.
  6. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly.
  7. Let the coconut-pecan topping cool slightly.
  8. Spread the topping over the chocolate filling.
  9. Refrigerate the German chocolate pie for at least 3-4 hours, or until fully set.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate chips.
  • A homemade Oreo crust works well.
  • Toasting the coconut and pecans before adding them enhances flavor.
  • For a lighter version, swap cream cheese with whipped topping.
  • Store leftovers tightly covered in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • The pie can be frozen, well-wrapped, for about a month. Thaw overnight in the fridge.
